Why Slovakia?

Getting here

Flights:

Plane over High Tatras

Poprad:
There are regular scheduled flights with Czech Airlines from Prague throughout the week, please see Czech Airlines website for the timings: http://secure.csa.cz/en/ibs/index.php?lng=en.
Poprad Airport has a modern arrivals hall and a 2.6 km runway so hopefully in the future it will be able to offer more international services from other European cities. The airport is more than happy to receive private jets...

Krakow:
This is the airport that our clients use most frequently due to the number of daily flights from European destinations - it is serviced by regular and low-cost airlines including Easyjet and Ryanair. It takes about 3 hours to get from Krakow to our region. We can arrange transfers to and from the airport. Krakow is a cultural and historical gem and it is well worth adding a few nights onto any itinerary to experience the atmosphere of this lively city.

To get from Krakow to Poprad by public transport is not very straightforward., the quickest way is to take a train or bus to Zakopane (the starting point for some of our tours) and then a bus to Poprad, total journey time would be 4,5 hrs.

Bratislava:
Bratislava, although a long way, is well connected with our region by train. There are regular direct trains which take about 5 hours. To get from the airport to the train station you can take a local bus. We will pick you up free of charge from the train station in Poprad. We are also starting to work in more westerly regions therefore in the future it may be more time efficient to fly to here rather than Krakow. Currently we cannot arrange road transfers from Bratislava except in special circumstances. One hour beyond Bratislava is Vienna. A day or two in either of these wonderful capital cities would add an interesting cultural dimension to any nature itinerary.

Kosice:
Although closer than both Krakow and Bratislava, Kosice does not have the international connections that they have. However as the major city in the East of Slovakia it has plenty to offer in terms of culture. We can arrange transfers to and from the airport which take about 1.5 hours.

Train

The European train network is fantastic and with the commitment to make it more integrated by the EU it is now a viable way to reach Slovakia. The timetables from Amsterdam, Paris and London all work reasonably well and with a city stop en route this can be an extremely pleasant way to travel.

With low cost airlines selling one way fares at reasonable rates a combination of rail and air travel is now also possible - reducing your carbon footprint and allowing you to see some of the stunning scenery along the way. The best station to come to is Poprad-Tatry - we will pick you up from the train station free of charge.

Local Transport:

During our tours we mainly use 4x4 vehicles or minibuses depending on group size. There is a wonderful local railway that runs from Poprad to the mountain resorts of the High Tatras. This is a great way to explore the area on free days.
